TICK THESE BOXES BEFORE HEADING ABROAD
In order to
gain admission to your dream university or any other reputed college, a good
academic background and strong financial aid are not the only pre-requisites.
Having all necessary documents in place is also important. Below is the list of
the top five essentials you need to pack:
1. PASSPORT/VISA:
This is the most important document. Pack it at the end so that you
remember where it has been stashed away. There could be nothing worse than going
all the way to the airport only to find that you don’t have the required
documents. You can also print out a copy of your passport and visa so that you
can keep the original in a safe place and just carry the copy.
2. COLLEGE APPLICATION FORM:
Fill in the application form neatly. It is recommended that you use a
computer if you need to type in the information. This makes it so much easier
for the admission officer to read it. An application form should never be
filled at the last minute as that creates scope for careless mistakes. Re-read
the form before submission.
3. CERTIFICATES:
Make sure you are carrying your senior secondary certificates (SSC),higher
secondary certificates (HSC) and all marksheets. If you have already finished
your bachelors’ degree or post-graduation, you will have to produce your degree
certificate and marksheets too.
4. COMPETITIVE EXAM SCORE:
This is an important document if English is not your first language.
Usually for arts courses you will require either TOEFL or IELTS score for
admission. Many universities require GMAT, GRE, ELSAT and so on for other
courses. This test certificates important and has a validity date. So make sure
the certificate is valid while submitting it to the university.
5. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
SOP can be a big help in getting admission abroad. It will signify who
you are, what made you choose your career path, why you opted for that
particular university, what you are planning to do after the course, your
interests and other personal details. A well-written SOP will be your key to your
admission to the university.
OPTIONS PLENTY:-
According to various surveys by education portals,
MBA is the most popular course for Indian students who decide to study abroad. However, with a boom in economy other courses are
also finding many takers. More and more students are now opting for courses
such as media/entertainment and even hairdressing. Some of the popular courses
abroad are: engineering, hotel management, information technology, medicine,
sports management and physiotherapy.
