7 MUST HAVE TABLE MANNERS

Etiquette and good table manners are important for every person, not just when you are going out for lunch or dinner, but also for every meal at home. Here are some dinner – table essentials and manners that every person must possess:

1.  WAIT FOR THE HOST TO INVITE YOU TO THE DINING TABLE:

Do not barge into the dining room and be seated without any notice.

2.  USE THE NAPKIN:

Put it on your lap or insert it on top of your shirt to avoid spilling food on your clothes.

3.  USE THE RIGHT CUTLERY:

Do not eat with your fingers when you have gone for a dinner party or a professional meet. While some traditions demand using your fingers, it is avoidable otherwise. Use a fork, spoon, and knife whenever necessary.

4.  KNOW HOW TO USE ALL THE CUTLERY:

Usually the one placed outside will be used for the first course. So start with the big spoon and work your way inwards with every course.

5.  BE POLITE:

Use words like ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ before and after passing food around the table or asking for something. Don’t talk too much while eating and don’t put your elbows on the table.

6.  DON’T TAKE BIG BITES:

Take small bites and avoid chewing with your mouth open.

7.  CROSS YOUR FORK AND SPOON ON THE PLATE:

And place your napkin alongside your plate to let the attendants know that your meal is over.
