HOW TO EAT YOUR SANDWICH
Can you eat a sandwich gracefully? Minus the mess and the stuffing sliding down your chin? Well, if you can, you are a genius…
HOW TO EAT MESSY FOOD
§ Sandwiches, less than an inch long,
are eaten with fingers. At a party, don’t eat more than four tea sandwiches.
§ Wraps, rolls and frankies that have
fillings wrapped in a thin bread should be eaten with the hand. Anything that
falls in the plate should be eaten with a fork or spoon.
§ Pizza should be eaten with fork and
knife only if the dressing is impossible to manage.
§ If you can’t keep pace with the
meltdown of an ice-cream, don’t order your favourite scoop in a cone. You
wouldn’t want the dripping process to start at the palm and end at the elbow.
Opt for a cup.
§ Croissants cannot be conquered as far
as the etiquette part is concerned. You will have to live with the mess.
SANDWICH SALVOS:
1. CLUB SANDWICHES:
There are three basic
problems of eating a club sandwich- they are overly big to fit into the mouth,
the filling is rich and inconsistent, and third, it’s a jaw-stretching
exercise. A lot of people will tell you the best way to eat a club sandwich is
to unstack it and then tuck into the various layers using a fork and a knife.
Besides, it’s quite dumb to eat a club sandwich with a fork and knife. Instead,
hold the sandwich firmly so that the fillings don’t slip out and the sandwich
goes into your mouth properly. Still, if you aren’t convinced about ‘not
messing up your club’, use some toothpicks or skewers to keep the ingredients
together and in place.
2. OPEN-FACED SANDWICH:
This is the most
uncomplicated bread stuff so just bite it off, if it has gravy, like sunny
side-up, use a fork and knife. Simple!
3. TEA-TIME SANDWICHES:
The cucumber-cheese combo
is the most popular variety of tea sandwich in india. If you have eaten it, you
would know that that there is no way you can mess up such a sandwich. Which
means there isn’t a fixed set of rules that governs how a tea sandwich is
eaten. Just savour it the way you want to. obviously, don’t stuff the entire
portion in your mouth at one go because the world is not slipping into some
sandwich famine. If the sandwich has some form of liquid topping, it will
mostly be served with a fork and knife. Use them wisely.
4. SANDWICHES WITH A LOAD OF STUFFING:
To eat a subway without
dripping sauces, jalapenos or pickle on the tray/table/shirt is a daunting
task. The best way to eat is to cut the sub into smaller parts. Don’t eat them
on the move, the sauces will ruin your attire.
5. BURGERS:
Dealing with a McD burger was never a problem as they are easy on stuffings, but with the arrival of various international burger chains, our favourite fast food has become bulkier. It is now loaded with several layers of cheese, bun, atty, mayo, meat, lettuce, etc. and the only way to work around a burger is to cut it into half, and then eat it. You can use a fork and knife if there is a lot of sauce or dressings.
